Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from teams evaluating Avatour for remote inspections.

Yes. Avatour streams live 360° video from a camera on the factory floor, giving every remote participant their own independent viewpoint — they can look around freely, just as if they were standing there. Unlike a standard video call where you see only what the camera operator points at, Avatour gives auditors full situational awareness of the environment. Companies including Colgate-Palmolive use it for health & safety inspections, Gemba walks, and supplier audits across their global manufacturing network.

A standard video call gives remote participants a single fixed viewpoint controlled by whoever is holding the phone. Avatour gives every participant their own independent point of view in a 360° environment — they can look left, right, up, and around simultaneously, without directing the on-site operator. This makes it genuinely suitable for inspections, audits, and walkthroughs where detail and spatial context matter.

Not always — and it's not designed to. Avatour works best as a way to increase the frequency and efficiency of site visibility, reducing the number of trips that require travel while ensuring the ones that do are better prepared. Many customers use it to conduct routine inspections, progress reviews, and Gemba walks remotely, while reserving travel for complex interventions or first-time visits.

Avatour is used for a broad range of inspection types: health & safety audits, quality and technology reviews, operational walkthroughs, Gemba walks, factory acceptance tests, supplier qualification visits, and project progress assessments. Both live (real-time) and recorded sessions are supported, so inspections can happen on a schedule or asynchronously.

Yes. Avatour's AI can generate a meeting summary and, where a checklist template has been uploaded in advance, produce a pre-filled Checklist Report based on the session audio. Participants can also add timestamped notes and annotate snapshots during or after the session. All outputs are drafts for human review — nothing is filed automatically without sign-off.

Up to 20 interactive participants can join a live Avatour session simultaneously, each with their own independent viewpoint. An additional 10 observers can join in Spectator mode, bringing the total to 30. This makes it well suited for multi-stakeholder audits involving quality, safety, and operational teams at the same time.

The operator needs an Avatour-supported 360° camera (available as a plug-and-play kit) and a smartphone or mobile data connection. Remote participants join via a standard web browser — no app, no installation. Avatour also provides its own multi-carrier mobile connectivity that works in 200+ countries, so the session doesn't depend on the site's local network.

Yes. Recorded sessions are stored in encrypted cloud storage within a dedicated Workspace, with access controlled by the Workspace owner. Recordings are only accessible to invited collaborators. Avatour also includes automatic face blurring for privacy compliance, which can be applied per asset or enforced as an organisation-wide policy.

Avatour offers a short-term pilot programme. The hardware ships pre-configured, and remote participants need only a browser link to join. Most customers are running their first live session within days of receiving the kit.
