Getting Started

How do I use the Avatour Host app?

This "Quick-Start Guide" provides the basic steps for getting started with your first Avatour session.

Pre-session Setup

These one-time setup tasks are required for new equipment only. AVATOUR turn-key kits are shipped pre-configured.

  1. If you don't yet have an AVATOUR Host Account, contact to request provisioning.
  2. Install the AVATOUR Host app on your mobile device from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. (Just search for "Avatour.")
    1. Or if you are using a Pilot One 360° camera, download the Avatour app using the instructions here.
  3. Configure your camera for Avatour.
    • If you're using an Insta 360 One X or One R camera, make sure the camera settings are configured for the appropriate USB mode for your mobile device. The cameras ship in USB: iOS mode; if you're using an Android device, you must switch them to USB:Android. Consult your camera documentation for information on how to do this.
    • If you're using a Ricoh Theta V or Theta Z1 camera, download and install the Avatour plugin from the Ricoh Plug-in Store.
  4. Pair your Bluetooth device with your mobile device using the settings menu.

Starting an AVATOUR Session

  1. Assemble the tripod/selfie stick.
  2. Ensure mobile device and Bluetooth headset are powered on.
  3. Confirm network connection. Connect to WiFi if available, or validate LTE signal.
  4. Secure the phone and 360° camera in the mount.
  5. Turn on the 360° camera, and connect it:
    • Insta360 cameras are connected to the mobile device using a special cable.
    • Ricoh Theta cameras must be connected to the same WiFi network as the mobile device; follow the instructions that came with the camera to connect.
  6. Start the AVATOUR app on the mobile device, and log in using your AVATOUR Host Account.
  7. Select an existing Session, or click "Create Session" to create a new one.
  8. (Optional.) Choose the "gear/camera" icon in the upper right to configure settings.
  9. Choose the Start Session button to begin your session and enable Guest users to join.

In-Session Controls

While operating an AVATOUR session, you have access to several controls, outlined below.

  • Motion Comfort Mode: this option detects motion of the mobile device, and reduces the frame rate while the device is in motion. This reduces discomfort among headset users and increases visual quality. It has three settings. We recommend that it be used in at least the "medium" setting in most situations.
  • Camera on/off: the camera icon allows the Host to disable the camera without ending the session.
  • Microphone mute: the microphone icon allows the mic to be muted.
  • Microphone gain: the gain on the microphone may be boosted to compensate for quiet sources.
